LESLEY HAZLETON is the author of several award-winning books about religion and politics in the Middle East, including Mary: a Flesh-and-Blood Biography; Where Mountains Roar; Jerusalem, Jerusalem; and most recently After the Prophet: The Epic Story of the Shia-Sunni Split in Islam.
A former psychologist, she reported from Israel for Time magazine, and has written on Middle East politics for The New York Times, Esquire, Vanity Fair, The Nation, The New Republic, The New York Review of Books, and other publications. She lives in Seattle, Washington.
